For more than a decade, Janice Williamson from Harrisonburg, Virginia, has been hand-crafting original jewelry designs, selling them professionally since 2011. "I was inspired to make my own jewelry many years before that, while taking a class completely unrelated to the art of jewelry making. I’d overheard a woman talking about a necklace she’d made by hand. Intrigued, I asked her if she would show me how to make one. She walked up to the blackboard and, like an architect drawing a plan, she mapped out a detailed design process that inspired me even more".
Eight years later, Janice Williamson had become very proficient in designing and creating distinctive pieces using her favorite jewelry-making materials: Swarovski pearls, freshwater pearls, crystals, semi-precious gemstones, dagger beads, tila beads, and seed beads. Family, friends, even strangers wanted to own and wear her designs, which certainly inspired her even more.
"Ooaky enables me to share my creations with jewelry lovers the world over. Here I offer you unique, affordable handmade jewelry of timeless, elegant design. Necklaces, bracelets, earrings and rings made with crystals, pearls, gemstones, and glass beads fill my shop and new pieces are added frequently. And it all came about from a sketch on a blackboard!"
Frequently Janice Williamson has had customers amazed at the quantity of jewelry she has created, each being a unique one-of-a-kind.
When asked how she comes up with all these ideas, she answers "my ideas, my inspirations, for colors and designs are everywhere--women on TV (especially hosts and newscasters), friends, in stores, in church, in the mall--not just jewelry stores—department stores, specialty stores. Pieces that were my favorites can be a design starting point".
Her process of getting inspired and create her one-of-a-kind items is equally unique and inspiring "when you have beads you want to use in a necklace, google for jewelry using that bead. When you find possibilities, pin the images on Pinterest on a secret board or take pictures on your phone and email the images to yourself. Another idea takes a little time but pays off in the long run. Say you want to make a collection of angel earrings. Find images online of designs and colors you like and save them. When you have at least 10 images saved, place them on a page in Word, Excel or PowerPoint. Print the page and keep it handy as you work on your collection of angelic earrings".
Her main source of motivation and genuine desire to keep designing and making unique items, truly comes from her desire to inspire others "jewels DO inspire and it is my hope that YOU will find something at Jewelry Inspirations that inspires and delights you".
